Week – 15 Sci-Fi/Fantasy

Holy cow, fifteen weeks of reading one book a week and I’m about pooped out. I’m also itching to read something not YA for once. But the end is in sight and next semester, hopefully, I can take my time with books instead of speed reading through them. Until then, I decided to read Seafire.

Week 14 – Zombies, Vampires, Non-humans

For my next YA class book, we had to read a book about zombies, vampires or any other non-human species and I chose Dread Nation. The basic plot is Civil War but what if zombies? This was such an interesting take on historical fiction and you might think combining the two genres (historical fiction and fantasy/dystopian) might not work but you’d be wrong with this one.

Week 13 – Graphic Novels

For my YA class, we decided to skip Week 12, which was going to be poetry, short stories, or a play/screenplay, and I had an awesome lined up. Instead, we had an online discussion board about The Hate U Give, which is fine but I was really looking forward to my play (kind of) that…

Week 10 -YALSA Nonfiction

For week ten, we had to read a YALSA nonfiction award book. I’ve read some nonfiction in my time, but not very many for teens, which is sad.

Week 16 – Best YA Fiction

For our last week, we had to pick a book that hasn’t been mentioned yet that everyone should put on their TBR immediately. But when you’ve got 30 other people in your class, it’s kinda hard to pick one that no one has read yet and was also published in the last five years.

Week 9 – Morris Award Books

For my ninth week of class (I can’t believe it’s been nine weeks already!), we had to read a Morris Award book, which is given out to first time authors writing for teens. My book for this week was The Story of Owen by E. K. Johnston, who I’m pretty sure has written other things…

Emergency Contact

Two of the most awkward human beings in fiction form an emergency contact relationship, helping each through the tough times in their lives while also forming an irresistible romance.

Seventh Week of Class – Historical Fiction

For my next class, we had to read a historical fiction novel. I was a little lost on which one to pick, since we had to pick something that was published in the last five years.

Sixth Week of YA Class – Comedies

Sometimes, I feel like people (or maybe it’s just me) equate comedy in books with romantic comedies, where the girl falls in love with a guy and hilarious stuff takes place in between. This wasn’t like that at all.

Fifth Week of Class – Sports

For my next class post, we had to read a sports book. Now, I’m not that into sports or sports book. In fact, this is probably the only sports book I’ve ever read and it wasn’t a bad one to start with.
